Monitoring critical infrastructure as it happens
How real-time visibility changes the gap between an incident occurring and a team responding to it.
Most incident reports share a structure: a description of what happened, when it was noticed, and — implicitly — how much time passed between the two. In critical infrastructure, that gap is often the most expensive part of the incident, and it's rarely something the report itself can fix, because it's a property of how the organization detected the problem in the first place.
Detection is a visibility problem
An organization doesn't fail to respond quickly because its teams are slow; it fails because the signal that something is wrong doesn't reach anyone until it's already an incident. Sensor data, field reports and system alerts often exist somewhere, just not in a place anyone is watching in real time.
What Guardian changes
Guardian's premise is straightforward: put every one of those signals on the same live map the moment they're generated, instead of the moment someone compiles a report about them. An anomaly in a reading and a field report about the same location become visible together, in context, without waiting for either to be manually cross-referenced.
The result is a different kind of report
When detection happens in real time, the report stops being the first time anyone finds out something happened, and becomes a record of a response that was already underway.
